Bulgari support the “Rewrite the Future” campaign of Save the Children





On the 125th anniversary of its foundation, Bulgari launches a major fund-raising project for the defence of children’s rights.

As part of the initiatives scheduled for 2009 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of its foundation, Bulgari has chosen to support the “Rewrite the Future” campaign of Save the Children, the largest independent international organisation for the defence and championing of children’s rights, present in over 100 countries around the world.

Through “Rewrite the Future” campaign Save the Children is committed to providing within 2010 quality education to 8 million children living in conflict-affected areas. Thanks to the campaign, up to now Save the Children has rebuilt schools, supplied school materials and protected children from abuse and exploitation, paving the way for a durable change in the life of almost 6 million children.


Bulgari has decided to make its own contribution to Save the Children with the objective of raising € 10 million by the end of 2009, of which € 1 million will be donated by Bulgari to the organisation in advance, while the remaining figure will be raised during the next year.

The symbol par excellence of Bulgari’s commitment alongside Save the Children – and a tribute to the silversmith origins of Sotirio Bulgari, the company’s founder – will be a silver ring specially created for the campaign and featuring the Save the Children logo engraved inside.

Besides the ring, to mark the occasion Bulgari will also develop a collection of 15 pieces of high jewellery and 8 high-end timepieces, of an estimated total value of € 3 million. It will be officially presented on 4 June 2009 in Rome, on occasion of the retrospective exhibition “Between Eternity and History”, hosted at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, to celebrate the 125 years of the Bulgari brand. This collection of jewels and watches will then be present at high-profile Bulgari events throughout the world – ultimately becoming the leading player of an auction that will be held on 7 December 2009 in New York and whose proceeds will be totally donated to Save the Children.

All the initiatives connected with the operation will be totally non-profit for the Bulgari Group.

The numerous celebrities of the world of films, show business, and music who, thus far, have decided to support the initiative include, among many others, Julianne Moore, Benicio Del Toro, Ben Stiller, Sally Field, Sting, Willem Dafoe, Rosario Fiorello, Gabriele Muccino, Jason Lewis, Andy Garcia, Valeria Golino, Fabrizio Ferri.

King Jewelers Acquires Wyler's New Official Watch of Italy's Soccer Team

Wyler Genève has signed a new licensing agreement to produce the official watch of the Italian national football team, almost 75 years after the pioneering Italian Wyler distributor Innocente Binda put the company’s watches on the wrists of the Squadra Azzurra for the 1934 World Cup.


To coincide with Italy’s first qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup, Wyler Genève renews its association with the Italian team through a new licensing agreement to produce the official watch of the Italian national football team. The watch is built around the brand’s unique shock-absorbing case and bears distinguishing features that are sure to appeal to Italian football fans. The most obvious of these is the colour of the dial and rubber strap, which is identical to the famous blue of the team's strip. More subtly, the small seconds counter at 3 o'clock shows off four gold stars at the quarters - representing the team's four World Cup titles. The small seconds hand it self is a miniature Italian tricolour in green, white and red. As a finishing touch, the transparent sapphire crystal case back has been laser engraved with the logo of the Italian football federation (FIGC) and the inscription "OFFICIAL WATCH OF THE ITALIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM".

Wyler Geneve timepieces: The official watch of the Dakar rally


Wyler Genève, the official timekeeper for the 2009 Dakar, today unveiled the official watch of the rally: a limited-edition chronograph made of the rare metal tantalum. Slated to appear in stores in time for the run-up to the Dakar, which starts in Buenos Aires on 3rd January 2009, the production run for this watch is limited to 182, which was the number of competitors in the first-ever Dakar rally 30 years ago.

In addition to on-screen credits as official timekeeper and the right to produce the official watch of the Dakar, Wyler Genève’s three-year agreement with the event organizers also includes the obligation for a life-cycle analysis of the event financed by Wyler Genève. The results from this will be used to determine the scope of a Wyler Genève prize, to be awarded for the 2010 edition, to recompense ecological endeavors by participants, organizers or anyone else involved in the Dakar.

The official Dakar watch uses Wyler Genève’s unique shock-absorbing case, in which the movement is sealed in a titanium container that is held in place in a carbon-fiber resin frame. The upper and lower plates are then fixed to this construction on sprung titanium screws, leaving the movement suspended inside. The use of tantalum for these plates leaves no doubt as to the exclusive nature of the Dakar watch. Not only is tantalum rarer than gold, it is also more difficult to machine – especially for the complex Wyler Genève case – meaning that there is only ever a limited number of models available with the intriguing blue-grey sheen of this rare metal.

DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating on the titanium screws and stainless-steel crown protector and chronograph pushers give the watch a stealthy look, with sand-colored detailing for the applied minute track, applied Arabic numerals, individually applied letters of the Wyler name and the chronograph counters offering a subtle contrast with the dark case and black dial. The sapphire crystal case back is laser engraved with “OFFICIAL WATCH OF THE DAKAR RALLY”, the limited-edition number (xxx/182) and the rally’s cheich (headscarf) logo. It also acts as a window on the chronograph movement beating inside, which has a 42-hour power reserve and a personalized Wyler Genève oscillating mass in drilled blackened heavy metal.

The official Dakar watch is delivered with a black rubber strap and black PVD-treated fold over clasp fitted. However, a special compartment in the luxury watch box, finished in shrunk leather, contains a special Dakar strap in the same leather, embossed with the cheich logo and Dakar inscription. The compartment also includes the screwdriver for opening the inner case back to change the strap and two Allen keys for removing the fold over clasp, as well as a USB stick with video instructions on how to change the strap. This not only gives the owner a choice of two totally different looks, it also allows them to see first-hand one example of the robustness of the watch, since the strap is fixed directly to the case with screws that pass through the upper and lower tantalum plates.

One of the Dakar’s most legendary drivers, nine-time winner Stéphane Peterhansel, is also a Wyler Genève ambassador, and will be putting the shock-absorbing Wyler Genève chronograph through its paces on the rally that he describes as “fascinating in terms of complexity, difficulty and ruggedness”.
