Official Timekeeper Alpina Geneve clocks winning Audi R15 @ the 12 Hours of Sebring

The Swiss watch-making brand Alpina has been the privileged partner of the 12 Hours of Sebring - the opening race of the American Le Mans Series 2009.

During the 3-day event and under the hot Florida sun, around 180'000 motor sport fans from around the world gathered to witness an extremely exciting & dynamic event.

On the occasion of this legendary race, Alpina premiered the Extreme 12 Hours of Sebring-watch at the Gallery of Legends VIP Area on Sebring Raceway. Watch enthusiasts & Sebring race fans had the opportunity to pre-discover the 257- piece limited edition. This race was particularly important, because it was the 100th race in the ALMS since its establishment in 1999. Founder and owner of the series, Dr. Don Panoz therefore received # 100/257 of the Alpina Extreme 12 Hours of Sebring during a celebration ceremony.

Alpina Geneve, in the role of the Official Timekeeper of 12 Hours of Sebring had the honour to clock the 9th Sebring victory for Audi, a debut victory though for its new R15 TDI LMP1 race car. Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen teamed to win the 57th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on Saturday night, March 21. McNish crossed the finish line 22.279 seconds ahead of Peugeot’s Franck Montagny in an epic battle between sports car racing’s two diesel powers.

To conclude the exhausting 12 hours, Alpina was delighted to offer the winners in all categories a very special trophy: a numbered example of the Alpina Extreme 12 Hours of Sebring timepiece that will help them to time their next victory. The watch capitalizes on the strong brand philosophy of Alpina, combined with the important requirements of the winning drivers in the race: highest level of accuracy, extremely high readability, shock resistance, sturdiness and reliability.

GP's Tip of the Week N° 100‏

An eagle, the symbol of the Manufacture, is engraved on each Girard-Perregaux movement. This hallmark was patented in 1897 in Germany because, at that time, there was no Intellectual Property Office in Switzerland.

1852 Constant Girard founded Girard & Cie. Two years later, he married Marie Perregaux and, from the union of their two names, the GIRARD-PERREGAUX Manufacture was born in 1856 in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

1867 GIRARD-PERREGAUX's reputation rapidly spread, even as far as the new world. The Tourbillon presented by Constant Girard at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris took the gold medal.

1880 Constant Girard developed the innovative concept of wearing watches on the wrist. These watches were ordered personally by Emperor Wilhelm I for officers in the German Imperial Navy. Two thousand were made, the first large-scale production of wristwatches in history. But in the day of the pocket-watch, this idea was considered too revolutionary and production was discontinued. It was not until the beginning of the next century that the wristwatch met with the success that it enjoys to this day. King Jewelers has these timepieces for you to view at both their locations, GP watches Nashville TN, and GP watches Miami FL.

Kevin Carter's "Waiting for Wishes" Celebrity Waiter’s Dinner

It was an emotional evening for Kevin Carter as he hosted his 4th Annual Kevin Carter's "Waiting for Wishes" Celebrity Waiter’s Dinner to benefit The Kevin Carter Foundation and The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee at The Palm in Nashville. The celebrity dinner was an exclusive, VIP evening where Carter, NFL teammates, alumni and country music artists were celebrity servers, raising an estimated $125,000, bringing the cumulative total to nearly $500,000 raised during the tenure of the event.

Among the celebrities that served in Carter's honor were country music artists Dierks Bentley, Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, Joe Nichols, Steve Azar, Andy Griggs and Sugarland along with Tennessee Titans Steve McNair, Keith Bulluck, Drew Bennett, Albert Haynesworth, Tyrone Calico, Peter Sirmon, Rocky Calmus, Chris Brown, Troy Fleming, Rich Gardner, Todd Williams, Tony Beckham, Ken Amato, Jared Clauss, Rein Long, Jason Mathews, Robert Reynolds, Justin Sandy, Jaqua Thomas, Randy Starks, Lance Schulters, Cody Spencer, Lamont Thompson, Kansas City Chiefs Robert Holcombe and Titans Alumni Frank Wycheck, Kevin Dyson and Chris Sanders. AFL Nashville Kats players Dan Alexander, Aaron McConnell and Kats Head Coach Pat Sperduto also joined in the festivities.

"I truly love Nashville and we’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity, love and support this city has shown us," said Carter. "When I arrived four years ago, I had a vision of the man I wanted to be and the impact I wanted to make. I am a better husband, better father and a better man because of my experience in Nashville and I’m eternally grateful to you for helping me make a difference in many lives."

Kevin and Shima Carter created The Kevin Carter Foundation in 2002 to enrich the lives of children focusing on youth and character development. Carter often quotes his father’s saying, "To whom much is given, much is expected" and admits he tries to live by that today. The Kevin Carter Foundation makes a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the primary beneficiary of "Waiting for Wishes" with the proceeds of the event.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Carter was named the 2005 Titans Community Man of the Year for the third consecutive year due to events and fundraising efforts such as this. For more information, visit his web site for upcoming events and news at www.kevincarterfoundation.org.

King Jewelers Presents Girard- Perregaux's Tip of the week

The Girard-Perregaux ww.tc ( world wide time control) Shadow's imposing 43 mm black ceramic case is the fruit of a long and meticulous manufacturing process. It's perfectly homogeneous texture gives it some appealing assets; extreme hardness (much higher then steel) i.e good wear resistance, while also being particularly light and wearable. Indeed, ceramic is considerably lighter then steel, and barely heavier than titanium, while also being completely bio compatible and hypoallergenic. The electronics and aeronautics industries in particular have also taken full advantage of it.

The timepiece is distinguished by a single system enabling the simultaneous and direct reading of local time and the time in the 24 time zones. A genuine Brand icon, this collection has been enhanced by a variety of complications, the latest sophistication being the Financial function, which for the first time ever, displays the working times of world stock markets. This technical and elegant Limited edition timepiece by Girard-Perregaux is available at this time in Aventura, FL and Nashville, TN at King Jewelers.

Baselworld 2009 Special Feature from Bell & Ross

At the recent Baselworld 2009 Fair, Bell & Ross debuted a skeleton of a completely different sort in its popular BR 01 model. Recognized for its 46-mm square case, the BR01 is the foundation for the limited edition Airborne. The timepiece is an anthem to military paratroopers, particularly the U.S. Airborne divisions, whose motto was “Death from Above” and symbolized by a skull displayed on uniforms and fighter planes. The watch’s dial is not only shaped in the outline of a skull, but its face bears the image of one too that appears dark under its crystal in the daytime, and glows green at night. The steel case is blackened with carbon and comes on either a rubber, leather or synthetic strap. The timepiece is limited to 500 pieces and should retail for $5,000. This special edition Bell & Ross BR01 timepiece is avaialble exclusively in Aventura, FL and Nashville, TN at King Jewelers.
