About Breitling Watches
BREITLING has created precision timepieces since 1884 when Leon Breitling opened a workshop specializing in chronographs. Breitling instruments for professionals have a long history in the aviation world where accuracy, technical innovation and reliability are critical, dating back to 1915 when Gaston Breitling created the first wristwatch chronograph, subsequently providing pilots with their first wrist instrument. By tradition, Breitling has specialized in developing and manufacturing technical watches - mostly mechanical and electronic chronographs – meaning watch instruments of exceptional quality corresponding to the parameters of intensive and continuous use. Watch Buying Guide - Part One

As we approach the holiday season, you may be considering a special watch for a special person in your life. If you’re not sure what to look for, we’ll be highlighting different features to consider in our weekly Watch Buying Guide.

When choosing a watch, functionality and style are two of the most important aspects to take into consideration.

To begin your education on How to Buy a Watch, consideration should be given to the choice of an authorized watch retailer. Look for an authorized watch retailer who has earned a distinguished reputation. A retailer should have the proper selection of quality timepieces to choose from, knowledgeable and experienced salespeople, and a service department that has trained personnel capable of handling maintenance and repair, using genuine replacement parts and watch bands, for years after your purchase.

Established in 1912, King Jewelers has proudly styled jewelry and timepiece aficionados from around the world. A pioneer among independent couture jewelers, King Jewelers has built an outstanding reputation steeped in quality, value and first-class customer service. King Jewelers features exclusive jewelry designers, offers in-house custom designs, private label jewelry collections, and is an authorized dealer for over forty luxury Swiss watch brands including Alpina, Bell & Ross, Bulgari, Breitling, Cartier, Chanel, Chopard, Concord, Dunhill, Ebel, Harry Winston, Hublot, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Jaquet Droz, Montblanc, Roger Dubuis, Swiss Army, TAG Heuer, and TechnoMarine. With two store locations in Aventura, FL and Nashville, TN, King Jewelers has won numerous awards as the Southeast’s top jewelry store and diamond wholesaler. With a diamond office located in Antwerp, Belgium since 1961, King Jewelers is able to offer Nashville and Miami custom diamond bridal designs and loose diamonds at prices. King Jewelers is a member of the Jewelers of America, American Watch Guild, and the American Society of Appraisers. King Jewelers has GIA Certified Gemologists and offers expert jewelry and watch repairs.

This week, we will focus on the different types of power available in timepieces:

Quartz watches - Battery life has an average of 1-2 years. Watch does not require winding and is very accurate.
Solar-Powered watches - Watches with panels that capture light and convert it to electricity to power the quartz movement.
Kinetic/Autoquartz watches - The weighted rotor, activated by the movement of your arm, turns a mini-generator to generate electricity, which is stored in the watch battery.
Mechanical watches - Require daily winding. Experience has shown that this becomes second nature, usually wound in the morning as you start your day.
Automatic watches - Also known as self-winding, have a rotor which is activated by movement of your arm winding the main spring. Can also be hand-wound. For those who wish to keep the watch running when not being worn, you can purchase a winding box.

Next week, we’ll feature the different types of protection to look for.

Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna and Senna Tourbillon

Hublot has introduced two new King Power watches - Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna and Hublot King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna. Both watches feature the yellow/bluegreen colors of the Brazilian nation and are made almost entirely from materials used in Formula 1, such as carbon fiber for the case (a first for Hublot), ceramic, and Nomex for the strap.

Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna
The Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna is available in a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces.
It features a 48mm carbon fiber case, a split second chronograph movement with power reserve indicator (F1-style blue, green and red dots), and is stamped with Ayrton Senna’s signature.

For the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend, Viviane Senna (Ayrton’s sister) and the Instituto Ayrton Senna hosted a special event on November 3, 2010, which provided the backdrop for Hublot’s unveiling of the King Power Ayrton Senna and the premiere of the documentary-film “Senna.”

The timepiece has split seconds timing, marked with a button on the left side of case. To measure a split time, the first “split second” hand is stopped, while the second continues to run. This mechanism allows time to be taken to check this first period, before the push-button is activated again, allowing the hand to catch up with the direct-drive hand. This function can be used to calculate the split times of a racer, or the times of two racers.

Hublot King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna
The Hublot King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna is available in 10 exceptional tourbillons manufactured entirely by Hublot. The 10 unique commemorative pieces come with a different engraving on the case-back of each watch, showing one of 10 highlights in the driver’s career, chosen by his sister and mother, as well as a Brazil yellow strap with green and blue stitching.

Both new Hublot King Power timepieces will be available at King Jewelers in early 2011 at the Nashville store’s Hublot shop-in-shop boutique. For more information, please visit http://www.hublot.com and http://www.kings1912.com.

Wedding Tips: The Guest List

There are a million and one details when planning a wedding, and one of the trickier – and sometimes, sensitive – details is putting together the guest list.

To get started, decide the general size of the wedding you want. Will it be a large, extravagant event or a more intimate setting? Next, consider the budget for the reception (including the decorations, food, beverages, etc.). Another factor is to consider is the type of setting. If you’re thinking about a small reception venue, you don’t want 300 people sitting on top of each other, but if you’re thinking of a grandiose ballroom, you don’t want 150 people making it look empty.

Once reaching those decisions, be sure to clarify the extent of your family’s involvement in the guest-list process from the beginning. Traditionally, each family invites half of the guests, but if one family is paying for a majority of the wedding or if you and your fiancé are assuming financial responsibility, or if you have lived away from home for many years, you may consider splitting the list into thirds (one for each family, and one for you & your fiancé).

While this may be easy mathematically, there will be emotions involved, especially as the number of people able to be invited becomes more limited. Negotiation is key – be willing to compromise with your fiancé and family.

There are a few ways to handle the children versus no children policy. Sometimes a firm no-children policy may not be practical, so other options could include an age limit, restricting the children invitations to immediate family members, or offering a babysitter to out-of-towners.

For your family and friends that live out of town: if you feel certain they won’t attend, sending a wedding announcement as opposed to an invitation is an option. Close friends and family should receive an invitation – don’t be surprised if they decide to make the trip!

Trimming the guest list can be tough, but setting clear-cut limits can help. Keep in mind that these restrictions will only work if there are no exceptions, which can lead to generating the bad feelings you’re hoping to avoid in the first place. Something else to consider is being honest about how close you are to certain friends – have you spoken to them in the past year?

After establishing a list, be sure to keep an organized list (both electronic and paper) that includes each person’s mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address, plus his/her relationship to the bride or groom. Also include space for the name of a guest’s date, the RSVPs, a description of gifts received, and the date that thank you notes for each were mailed.

There will undoubtedly be social pressure throughout the guest list process, but setting limits, being flexible and willing to compromise will help keep feathers from being ruffled.

The latest timepiece unveiled by Franc Vila is a part of the brand’s SuperLigero Concept collection, the FVa35 SuperSonico 5 Minutes Repeater.

One of the key features of the collection is the use of Lightnium, an aluminum-lithium based alloy used in aeronautical engineering. It is a light material with high-tensile strength, which enhances the sound performance of this sporty repeater.

The movement was designed to display a complete view of the sonnerie movement in a skeleton-like view.

In fact, the first FRANC VILA watch, which I made just to satisfy my quest of the perfect watch for me, was a perpetual calendar with minute repeater. I’ve been working since long time in order to create a collection of repeaters, and the FVa35 SuperSonico is the first timepiece in this collection. I am sure that the High-End watchmaking passionates of minute repetition will love this contemporary repeater because of its mechanical beauty and the crafted assembly process, including the fine tuning of the sound performed by the watchmakers to all the timepieces one by one with extremely care and dearness.”

November Birthstone Spotlight: Citrine

A rare form of quartz, Citrine is symbolic of hope and strength. From the old French for "lemon," this gem comes in a variety of yellows. When subjected to heat, the stone can change color, so it is recommended not to leave citrine jewelry pieces in direct sunlight for extended periods of time because it will permanently alter the color. Historically, citrine has been used to enhance yellow gold jewelry and was often believed to have medicinal properties.

This month’s featured birthstone jewelry piece is from the King Jewelers Private Label collection: a Yellow Gold Citrine Cocktail Ring. This round cut orange citrine is framed by diamonds and set into 18 carat yellow gold with a chevron trimming and further gold embellishments around the edge of the ring and the band of the ring.
