Hublot steps aboard with Alinghi to defend Switzerland and the 33rd America’s Cup!

Hublot's CEO, Jean -Claude Biver, is proud to be in Genoa today alongside Ernesto Bertarelli to announce Hublot's commitment to supporting Alinghi's extraordinary campaign in the 33rd America’s Cup

A marriage of excellence, technology and passion to defend the Swiss colours together!

This is a new, prestigious partnership for the watch brand, which will today join the race campaign alongside the Swiss defender Alinghi. The Swiss yacht's bid to win the America’s Cup in February 2010 against the American BMW Oracle yacht has inspired Hublot's CEO, Jean-Claude Biver. His meeting with Ernesto Bertarelli revealed the many values shared by the brand and Team Alinghi. Both are at the cutting edge of technology in terms of brand new materials and innovations, and are engaged in a constant search for excellence. Partnerships with research and development centres such as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, or EPFL) reveal a common passion for the quality and precision characterised by "Swissness". The two owners of Alinghi and Hublot also share a vision of work as a team effort, and a respect for tradition.

Hublot has always had close links with the world of yachting - firstly through its name, which means 'porthole' in French, through its partnerships with prestigious sailing clubs such as Yacht Club Monaco and Real Club Nautico de Palma, or through sponsorship deals with numerous races and yachts. This new alliance with Alinghi seems the obvious choice for the brand. Next February it will embark on an adventure with all the energy and passion for which it is renowned, in a race taking place in the waters off Ras al-Khaimah, aboard a truly remarkable catamaran.

Jean-Claude Biver is thrilled: "We had the chance to admire the yacht as it left the yard, and when it first took to the water on Lake Geneva. It is a magnificent boat and it represents the essence of Swiss expertise, with nearly 200 Swiss companies having worked on it. The "Swiss Made" label has never been more appropriate! The Swiss people - myself included - have shown no hesitation in displaying their admiration for Team Alinghi, and I am even more proud that we are the first brand to become one of the main sponsors of this incredible adventure. I am delighted to be able to help Switzerland win the Cup once more, this time against the USA."

Hublot will produce an exclusive limited edition watch in the Alinghi colours, made from materials similar to those used in the construction of the yacht itself.

Jaquet Droz University: Geology - 101‏

Lapis Lazuli, pronounced LAP-iss LAZ-yuh-lie (sometimes abbreviated to lapis) is a relatively rare, semi-precious stone that is since antiquity for its intense blue color. It has been mined in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan for 6,000 years. The finest color is intense blue, lightly dusted with small flecks of golden pyrite. Stones with no white calcite veins and only small pyrite inclusions are more prized. Patches of pyrite are important to help in identifying the stone as genuine and do not detract from it's value.
In ancient Egypt lapis lazuli was a favorite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs; it was also used by the Assyrians and Babylonians for seals. Lapis jewelry has been found at excavations of the Predynastic Egyptian site Naqada (3300-3100 BC). and powdered lapis was used as eye shadow by Cleopatra.

KING JEWELERS SPONSORS THE 2009 IROQUOIS STEEPLECASE AS THE EXCLUSIVE JEWELER

NASHVILLE, TENN. --- May 13, 2009 --- King Jewelers served as the Exclusive Jeweler and a Silver Sponsor of the 2009 Iroquois Steeplechase held recently at Nashville’s Percy Warner Park, one of Music City’s most popular events for horse racing enthusiasts. For 68 years, the Iroquois Steeplechase has captivated thousands of spectators from near and far with its traditions, pageantry and the energy of the sport.
The Iroquois Steeplechase benefits the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and has designated the hospital as a beneficiary since 1981, raising more than $8 million dollars. The affiliation with the hospital has helped the event to grow with additional volunteers, improve the course, the facilities and the purses.

King Jewelers as the Exclusive Jeweler:

As the Exclusive Jeweler of the 2009 Iroquois Steeplechase, the company along with Chopard sponsored the race day and donated a $6,800 “Happy Moon & Stars” necklace for the silent auction for the Hunt Ball held at the Belle Meade Country Club. Chopard president Marc Hrushka flew in from New York City to attend the ball and the races. King Jewelers is the exclusive Chopard retailer for the south central region of the United States.

At the Hunt Ball, a red carpet entrance reminiscent of the Cannes Film Festival was staged with models wearing exclusive Chopard sets of jewelry which will be seen at the festival in France next week. King Jewelers provided the event chairwomen with its own unique jewelry designs for this event and had an array of gift accessories, clocks, jewels and more on display.

“King Jewelers is honored to be a part of this year’s Iroquois Steeplechase and help raise money for the children’s hospital, “ said David King, brand manager of King Jewelers. “Not only did we partner with the hospital for our grand opening, we are also launching a Young Leaders Society Foundation in conjunction with it this fall. Our family-owned company has an extensive legacy of supporting children’s charities.”

About the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt:

Created in 1970, the Children’s Hospital pioneered the concept of a “hospital within a hospital,” allowing administrative and physical autonomy, while sharing a structural facility with Vanderbilt University Medical Center to reduce costs. The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt opened in February 2004 and serves children from across the region of all ages ranging from premature newborns up to 18 years old.
